Types of Potted Plants

Potted plants come in all shapes and sizes; some are outside plants, and others are indoor. Potted plants are easy to maintain because weeds are easily contained inside the pots. Weeds are also easier to identify when plants are in pots. Growing vegetables and fruits in pots allows a person without the garden space to still grow a vegetable garden through container gardening. You can make pots out of recycled milk jugs, cereal boxes, laundry soap buckets and many other household items.

Tomatoes
Tomato plants grow successfully in any type of pot. The trick of growing tomatoes in a container is to ensure the pot is large enough to accommodate the root system. The bigger the container, the larger the tomato will get.

Beans
Beans can be grown in pots as long as you provide a trellis for the bean plant to climb. You can buy or make a bean trellis.

Bulbs
You can design a potted basket with bulbs, perennials or annuals. Tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, begonias and bleeding heart all do well in hanging baskets.

Cactus
Cacti and other succulents do very well in pots. They require very little water, and no soil. Just fill the pots will sand or rocks.

Jade Plant
Jade plants require very little water, and do well in pots. They grow slowly, but they live for hundreds of years.

Hindu Rope Plant
The Hindu rope plant is a flowering succulent that has very fragrant flowers. The plant does not do well outside in cold climates; it should be indoors if you live in a colder area.

Spider Plant
The spider plant is very popular in the United States. It can live indoor in pots, or outside in a garden bed. Spider plants produce plantlets that can be repotted. Spider plants grow well as potted hanging baskets.
